Description

Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise: His Final Months offers a comprehensive overview of the paintings and drawings that Vincent van Gogh created during the intense and highly productive period leading up to his self-inflicted death on 29 July 1890. In seventy days, in this rural village near Paris, he made no fewer than seventy-four paintings and over fifty drawings.

To do justice to the great variety of Van Gogh’s work from Auvers, this publication pays attention not only to the famous large paintings but also to smaller and lesser-known works, which impress in all their simplicity.
Essays shed light on his painted still lifes, portraits, panoramic landscapes and drawings, and on his burgeoning reputation after his death. All of the paintings are reproduced, alongside historical photographs and detailed maps showing the places where Van Gogh worked and where he found his inspiration.

By Nienke Bakker, Emmanuel Coquery, Teio Meedendorp and Louis van Tilborgh (eds.) with essays by Bregje Gerritse, Sara Tas and Wouter van der Veen.
