This is one of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings. He executed it in July 1890, in the last weeks of his life. The overcast sky filled with crows and the dead-end path have often been seen as presaging the artist’s suicide. This is uncertain, however. It is in an impressive work, dynamically painted and with great feeling for drama.
